The Seth Meiller Foundation continues to support the four target programs we selected in 2004. Click the image to learn how our programs have become more integrated recently: .
Echo Hill Outdoor School SMF granted scholarships to 45 students at Hamilton Elementary School to attend an expanded four-day program at EHOS the week of April 28, 2008. The presence and visibility of EHOS through SMF has encouraged FSK to restart their EHOS yearly activity by sending 5th grade classes to EHOS. This project remains special since it focuses on experiential and environmental education, which is one of the keynote areas of interest in the mission of the Seth Meiller Foundation. Francis Scott Key Elementary/Middle School The Foundation has been supporting the Moderately Intellectually Limited (MOIL) Students Program at FSK, the program where Seth used to teach. MOIL students participated in a SMF-funded boat trip onboard the skipjack Sigsbee with the Living Classrooms Foundation in Baltimore, MD in October 2007. SMF had 4 volunteers on the trip. MOIL students competed in both ice-skating and field game competitions in 2008 with the Special Olympics of Baltimore. 8 students will be graduating from the MOIL program at FSK this year on June 10, 2008 and SMF will provide a graduation package for each student including grants and graduation presents. KidsGrow Environmental Education Program
KidsGrow is a year-round environmental education program that teaches urban elementary and middle school youth in Baltimore City to appreciate the environment and become activists in their own neighborhoods. Participants are educated through their classroom activities, exploring our extensive local parks and watersheds, tree nurseries, gardens and cultural assets. The activism component takes place through "hands-on" projects such as tree plantings, greening projects, stream monitoring and neighborhood clean-ups. Students leave the program with high spirits and the realization that it is their responsibility to care for their communities and environment. And most importantly, they learn that they can be the catalysts for these changes. The SMF funded 165 KidsGrow students from Harlem Park School in Baltimore City to participate in trips to EHOS as well, in May 2007. Kids Grow Website.
Special Olympics of Baltimore City Special Olympics is dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive and respected members of society through sports training and competition. The Foundation has supported Special Olympics of Baltimore City with active participation from a range of students, including the MOIL students from FSK in the ice-skating competition at Mount Pleasant Ice Arena and the field game competition at Morgan State University in spring 2008. A number of SMF volunteers helped out at both of the competitions.
